Florida Traffic Reporter Survives Second Career Helicopter Crash
Boynton Beach, FL (AHN) -- A longtime television and radio traffic reporter walked away from his second career helicopter crash Tuesday morning.
Paul Cavanaugh was riding in a CBS 12 traffic helicopters when it crash landed in a Boynton Beach industrial park, destroying the aircraft's tail, but leaving Cavanaugh and the pilot without injury, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The pilot, Takayuki Tanaka, reported engine problems with the helicopter, and then searched for a safe place to land, avoiding power lines and homes.
Cavanaugh's first crash came in August of 1988, only a few miles from the most recent crash. The cockpit he was riding in was crushed during the accident, and he broke his left ankle as a result, according to the Post.
A resident of Delray Beach, Cavanaugh was the area's first traffic reporter in 1984, and provides traffic updates on both television and radio for Palm Beach and Broward area commuters.
